According to a survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers on projected employment for recent college grads, information management and marketing are two majors in demand by employers. And the most sought-after bachelor's degrees are accounting, computer science, finance, business administration and mechanical engineering.
Forget the idea of hobbyists printing off small plastic trinkets at home. Industrial 3D printers, which can cost up to $1m, are changing manufacturing...Compared with the $70 billion machine-tool market, additive manufacturing is still tiny. But it is expanding rapidly, and not just in health care. Overall, Wohlers estimates that 3D-printed products and services grew by 26% last year, to be worth nearly $5.2 billion.
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, scientists are 95 percent certain that human activities are responsible for most of the dramatic warming since the 1950s. But according to Yale’s estimates, that opinion is shared by less than half of adults in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wyoming. Overall, just 48 percent of adults in the Super Tuesday states accept the scientific consensus.
Stingrays have turned up everywhere. They’ve been documented at 53 agencies spread across 21 states, used in major cities like New York and Chicago as well as smaller departments in Memphis, Durham, and San Jose. At the end of first grade, co-investigator Dale Farran says the pre-K students were measurably less excited about school ... By third grade, the pre-K students were being outperformed by those who got the later start ... the state spent $86 million this year on pre-K.
Tennessee banks are continuing to choose state-based regulators rather than federal authorities having primary oversight. It’s called a charter conversion. A dozen banks in the last five years dropped their national credentials to become state-chartered in Tennessee. It’s been a nationwide trend ever since the passage of financial reforms following the banking crisis... a study out of the University of Chicago found that state regulators consistently went easier on banks than federal authorities
The federal tax system is, on the whole, progressive. Higher-income households pay a higher share of their income in taxes. But some states have done all they can to reverse that ... Tennessee, Mississippi, and West Virginia have structured their tax codes so that middle and lower-income families pay a bigger share of their incomes than wealthy families do.
